You are a GREAT candidate for birth center or home birth if:

​

• You have a desire to have an unmedicated, peaceful, uninterrupted, natural birth.​

​

• You trust your body and believe you can "birth your baby"

 

• You want to be able to "listen" to your body and move in ways that will help birth your baby. (Not be constrained to a hospital bed).

 

• You are in good health! 

 

• Most women are great candidates! Some concerns may require additional care or a consult from a high-risk provider: high blood pressure (above 140/90), anemia (below 8), unmanaged diabetes, neurological disorders, heart, lung or kidney disease, substance abuse. We'd love to discuss your health and whether or not you are a great candidate. We also work with you to help you become a great candidate. 

 

What happens if I need to transfer care to a hospital:

​

• If during pregnancy, we see concerns that need additional support or information, we will refer you to see a MFM (Maternal Fetal Medicine/high risk pregnancy doctor). We will continue to consult with you regarding what is best for you and baby.

 

• If during delivery the need arises to transfer to a hospital, it is either because a mother is exhausted and wants an epidural and to sleep (the most common) or we need tools that the hospital has, which we don't carry at home (Epidural, vacuum, forceps...). At least one of us will attend with you. We call the hospital to let them know the concerns, fax over professional medical records, walk in with you, and help you get settled. If the mother gets to sleep, we may go home and sleep too, then come back. Our hospital transfers are a good experience, and thankfully, seldom occur.
